Hello,
I arrived in Hawaii last night. The flight went really well. Westjet is great. Ive been lucky with seating. Both flights I got the emergency eisle. I watched, " The Sentinel" on the flight. It was a very average movie. Once I landed my luggage came out imediately and I called my cousin. She picked me up and drove us back to her place. Its about 25 at night.
We got to her house around 11:10 and she showed me around. She has the cutiest cat ever. He is a little bug hunter. He stalks the house looking for Cochroaches and Centipedes. He missed 2 cockroaches. I stomped in one in the bathroom. It sorta freaked me out. It was about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. Took me all my weight to kill it. Eww. Kristas house is very small and cozy. it has metal siding for a roof and is surrounded by trees and a small farm behind her.
I woke up at 4am to a screaming wild rooster. It was really nice actually. I just relaxed on her couch till noon and enjoyed the sun and sounds. There was a horse about 15 feet away from me in her window staring at me. I got pictures of her cat and house and ill post later.
In the morning Krista drove me over to my hostel. Its right outside town, about a 5 min walk from the beach. The hostel is pretty descent as well. Its semi clean with what seems friendly people stay there. Everyone is young and exploring life. Most of the people are surfers or wind surfers that are out most of the day. Hopefully it wont be a hot night sleeping there. They overbooked the rooms so im staying on the floor of one of the private rooms. I also got a small discount of those nights that I need to stay on the floor.
After the hostel tour I went right to the beach. Its pretty nice. Its not the Caribean or anything but its very nice. The beaches seem really empty for the most part. I bet all the people are north around the surfing spots. I need to rent a car to get up there. Its about 40 min away from where I am. I can rent a used car for about 125 bucks a week. Seems reasonable. I cant exactly take a bus here. They dont exist. Neither do cabs.
I am going to head down to the local bar tonight and try to find some people to hang out with. Being alone is tougher than I thought it was. Hawaii seems pretty quiet for the most part. Hopefully once I get the car I can cruise around to the other parts of Maui and find some areas near tourists.
You can rent a surf board on a weekly basis so im gonna pick one up. Ill get my cousin Krista to teach me as lessons are $65 per hour including board and gear.
More to come later.
D.
