Hello again,
I flew out to Narita, Japan yesterday. The flight was unbelievable. I was in economy section but I was treated like a king. The plane was unreal, the food was top notch, and the free movies made it go by quick.
Once the plane landed I quickly got my luggage and tried to find the JR line transit station to Tokyo. The airport was extremely large yet
easy to navigate. I bought my ticket to Tokyo and boarded the 1.5 hour long ride.
Tokyo is insane. There is next to zero culteral diversity. Everyone is
Japanese. As I wandered around the miles of underground shops and train stations, I managed to find someone that spoke minor english. She told me where my capsule hotel was located.
I arrived at what seemed to be a door in a back-alley. Everything is so cramped. Anyways I took the elevator up 3 flights to open up in
to a small lobby. The desk clerk didnt speak english so another
employee told me that I couldnt stay there if I didnt speak Japanese. Oh good.
My walk back took me about 15 min in the
rain。 Keep in mind im carrying about 150 pounds of luggage. I couldnt go back to the information centre without buying another ticket inside the terminal. So I wandered around the underground exterior of the train
station for about an hour looking for 1 white face. None were
found.
I finally found another information desk and the girl pointed me in
the direction of a travel agency. The travel agent told me that all the hotels in Tokyo were booked and that I needed to speak Japanese
for me to be helped by her.She just didnt want to be bothered by
me.
So I sat down and wondered what the heck I was going to do. I
decided to stand at the central exit gates till I found a person that seemed approachable.
This australian business fellow was with two other Japanese businessmen and I approached them and explained the situation. The older
Japanese businessman told his younger associate to help me out. He called around and was able to find a foreinger friendly capsule hotel near by to help me out.
So after about 30 min of waiting for a cab I got over here and
checked it out.
The hotel is interesting to say the least. Its basically an office
building with floors of old capsule beds. At 7p.m. when I arrived
there was 1 person here. When I woke up this morning it was full.It seems everyone comes and crashes here during the late night.
Im not sure what is going to happen today.I dont think you can put your stuff here while you sightsee. I totally need a tourguide. I cant even get breakfast at this point.
This internet terminal seems to be costing me alot so I cant post
pictures until I find a real internet cafe. I might try to find the Canadian consolate and ask them for some help and advise. Otherwise im not sure.
Ill talk soon I hope.
D.
